Arthur Holm design technology for institutions

senate

Senates, general secretariats, parliaments, assemblies and congress halls throughout the world rely very much on the effective collation and dissemination of information in which technology plays a key role. They need to develop an information strategy which includes planning, installing and maintaining a technology infrastructure which enhances real time communication, promotes interactivity and content sharing to expedite the decision making process. We would like to present some case studies where ARTHUR HOLM and ALBIRAL products have been used to provide cutting edge technology combined with an outstanding and totally unobtrusive design; special cases where ARTHUR HOLM engineering team has been intensively working hand by hand with the system integrator, to achieve a solution which fulfils the end user expectations in terms of design, quality and functionality.

Some examples:

The Majlis in Oman (new Parliament):

Customized Albiral retractable touch screen monitors have been installed in the prestigious Majlis Oman, the new parliament building, which is located in the Al Bustan area of Oman, close to the Ceremonial Palace and the Ministerial buildings. The Majlis overlooks the gulf of Oman and is surrounded by mountainous background and primary dual carriageways.

The monitors have been customized in a special colour to match with the conference system, with touch screens and with the Sultanate`s logotype placed at the back of the displays, and the ARTHUR HOLM ERT interfaces and the AHnet monitor control software have been implemented, allowing all the devices to be daisy chained with cabling distances of over 500 meters. The use of the ALBIRAL/ARTHUR HOLM ERT interfaces is extremely useful when there are an important number of devices. They permit to physically group the monitors and to divide the control by zones. Connectivity is extremely easy, through standard RJ45. They add diagnose capability, which allow detecting cabling problems and duplicity of addresses. In combination with the AHnet software, they permit to store and recall different working scenes as well as to create automated test routines. Users can be sure that all equipment is prepared and ready to use before holding an important event. ERT devices are becoming a must for large installations; they provide exclusive outstanding features which help system integrators to deliver a reliable and future proof installation along with providing the best service to the end users.

The Senate of Mexico:

Another example of ARTHUR HOLM customization is the Seat of the Senate of Mexico. The headquarters of the Senate are located in an intersection of two of the most important streets in Mexico City, the “Paseo de la Reforma” and the “Avenida de los Insurgentes”. The project was conceived in such a way that legislative work could be done under the best conditions and efficiently; the most important components in the new headquarters being three: a semi‐circle which has 128 offices for the Senators, their collaborators and advisors: a tower with the legislative committees and last but not least, the congress hall, one of the most impressive rooms due to its elliptical geometric shape and which is the main characteristic for the design of the patriotic “patio”.

In the new Seat of the Senate of Mexico, each senator has access to an elegant 12” Arthur Holm Dynamic 2 touch screen. The uptable cover plate has been customized to hold a fixed gooseneck microphone, voting system, biometric reader, speaker and USB connections.

The design monitor’s screen provides access to daily agendas, debate diaries, synopsis, and connection to Internet. Thanks to its retractable system, they can be raised and lowered by the user facilitating in this way the visibility towards the hemicycle. The goal is to use “zero” paper and to have a sustainable hall that provides the latest technology with a maximum level of efficiency.

Because of its technical complexity, the Senate of Mexico was considered by National Geographic as a “mega structure” and an example of the Mexican new architecture. The construction has been compared to San Francisco’s bridge, Alcatraz Island and the Pentagon.

The European Commission:

Simultaneous interpreting requires meeting rooms specially equipped with sound proof booths for the interpreters and different electronic equipment, to facilitate their crucial task. The use of a non‐intrusive monitor is fundamental, since interpreters will use it to visualize both the meeting rooms and the needed documents. While technology provides powerful means of improving communication, the human touch remains irreplaceable at the core of this difficult art. Interpreters play a fundamental role at international institutions since international meetings and conferences are attended by people from different backgrounds and cultures who often speak different languages. Interpreters are the front line of multilingualism, working to ensure that language is no barrier to understanding. By enabling communication and facilitating dialogue, interpreters act as a bridge between cultures and often find themselves at the very heart of the decision‐making progress.

Interpretation booths are equipped with a high definition monitor which allows an easy and straight forward video source selection. With a minimal frame, these monitors provide two switchable HD‐SDI inputs and they are designed to keep an optimal height.

To reinforce the communication process, DynamicX2 monitors are installed inside the meeting rooms.
