The block of 12 South American countries will have a permanent home on the outskirts of the capital where ARTHUR HOLM retractable monitors will be used by the presidents of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela, Chile, Guyana and Suriname. The building has been designed by Diego Guayasamín and it is located in the Middle of the World City Complex, in an area of 20.000 square meters. Guayasamín projected the building as a metaphor for freedom, based on a large public square as a gesture of respect and contribution to its immediate environment. It is designed with a sculptural connotation to surprise and to present a different image depending on where you look at it. Volumetrically, the building “U shape” rises and is delimited with three virtual axes.

The Union of South American nations is an intergovernmental union integrating two existing custom unions: Mercosur and the Andean Community of Nations, as a part of the continuous process of South American integration. The group announced their intention to model the new community after the European Union, including a common currency, parliament and passport.
