The expanded Regional Council Chamber in Sorø inaugurated on 11 August showcases bespoke council chamber technology, marking another milestone on the path towards the creation of Region Østdanmark (Region of Eastern Denmark) on 1 January 2027.
Designed to accommodate the 47 elected representatives of the new Regional Council, the chamber demonstrates how thoughtful architecture, skilled craftsmanship and seamlessly integrated technology can create an elegant, future-ready decision-making environment.
Collaboration from Concept to Completion
At the heart of the project is a fully bespoke Arthur Holm solution, developed in close collaboration with Danish distributor AV Huset.
AV Huset played a key coordinating role, gathering and translating the end user’s requirements alongside the project’s functional, technical and architectural needs. Close cooperation between Arthur Holm, consultants, contractors and integration specialists ensured that every element worked in harmony—from the furniture and audiovisual technology to the room’s finishes and daily operational requirements.
The result is a unique solution designed and manufactured exclusively for this chamber, combining precision engineering with meticulous attention to detail.
Bespoke Council Chamber Technology: A Custom DynamicTabLift Solution
The council table incorporates a customized version of Arthur Holm’s DynamicTabLift, a motorized system that discreetly conceals tablets inside the furniture when they are not required.
Its silent, smooth movement allows each tablet to rise elegantly from the tabletop at the touch of a button or through remote RS-422 control. Once raised, the device can be manually rotated from 0 to 90 degrees, allowing it to be used in either portrait or landscape orientation. An advanced locking mechanism keeps the tablet stable and securely positioned throughout use.
By removing unnecessary devices from view, DynamicTabLift preserves the clean architectural lines of the table, reduces visual clutter and helps participants remain focused on the discussion. At the same time, it provides immediate and intuitive access to digital information whenever required.
One Integrated Workspace
For this project, the DynamicTabLift units were finished in a black painting, creating a refined contrast with the council table’s light wood surface.
The custom tabletop plate was extended to integrate:
- Bosch DICENTIS fixed microphones
- Speak-request DICENTIS buttons
- Individual loudspeakers
- A rotating stainless-steel power outlet module
- The motorised tablet-lifting system
This compact, carefully engineered configuration gives every council member access to all essential functions from a single position. Users can charge personal devices, raise or conceal a tablet, request the floor and speak through a gooseneck microphone. A dedicated loudspeaker positioned close to each participant provides excellent speech intelligibility throughout the chamber.
The integration illustrates one of Arthur Holm’s defining strengths: the ability to bring multiple technologies together in a solution that feels coherent, intuitive and architecturally considered.
Respecting the Past, Building for the Future
The expansion has been designed with respect for the building’s existing architecture while meeting contemporary accessibility and sustainability requirements. An integrated landscape ramp provides step-free access, including along emergency escape routes, while the construction prioritises materials with a lower climate impact and the reuse of existing resources.
A distinctive rear wall gives this philosophy a powerful physical presence. Built using stone reclaimed from the former Regional Council Chamber, it gives new purpose to materials that have already witnessed important decisions.
Beyond reducing resource consumption, the wall symbolises the journey towards Region Østdanmark: the history, experience and strengths of two regions becoming the foundation for something new. What once formed part of the past is now helping to shape the future!
